Fireproof Movie Review
I might be a bit biased since we’re showing this movie at church next Saturday, but I think Fireproof is a fantastic film. The cast and crew will probably not be saying, “I’d like to thank the academy…” anytime soon, but this production from Sherwood Pictures is a great improvement from Facing the Giants. The two leading actors in the film (Erin Bethea and Kirk Cameron) bring a much more believable performance to this movie than Sherwood’s previous attempts. Their evolution of performance and production is profoundly revealed in Fireproof.
That said, the best part of the movie is the story. The lead couple’s struggle to save their marriage is an inspiration to all and this inspiring message is powerfully delivered. There are a few smatterings of Christian cheese and a touch of too much drama, but this couple’s struggle is all too real and will hit close to home for many in America. This film is inspiring, but thankfully not too heavy like many Christian movies. There are some truly funny parts that pick on both men and women in their relationships. The humor provides a great break during what could be a weighty story. This film is also uplifting and believable, unlike Facing the Giants everything does not “magically” turn out right. It’s a real story from the real world and the accomplishments in their struggles are powerful reminders of God’s grace in a broken world. I highly recommend this movie as required viewing for those who are married and if you haven’t seen it I encourage you to join us Saturday, October 17th, 6:30pm at Bowling Green Christian Church.
