Study
Study is hard work. It is so much easier to find something else to do in its place than to stay at the grind of it. We have excuses aplenty for avoiding the dull, hard, daily attempt to learn. There is always something so much more important to do than reading. There is always some excuse for not stretching our souls with new ideas and insights now or yet or ever.

Why can I not wait to fold over some paperback novel on vacation, but when it comes time to study the covers on a book seem glued shut? That’s not entirely true, I delight in study, I love to study and love to read. But it is a struggle, like going to the gym. I know I should, when I’m done I feel great, but the act of starting is so hard. I received this quote about the time school started for many of our students. The routine for many has settled in and I’m sure that studying is getting more and more difficult. I had a wise accounting teacher say to us regarding study, “Getting started is half done.” It’s true…if you actually get started you’ve won the major battle within. I encourage you to study, study for school, study for work, study for your soul. We will benefit from the new insights we gain from study whether it is the Bible or the lives and thoughts of those ahead of us. We will always be glad we did, if we just could get started.
